Vidal Duane Capps, son of Luther and Pearl (Trotter) Capps, was born January 8, 1932, on a farm near Kanona, Kansas, in Decatur County. He passed away Tuesday, February 23, 1993, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Denver, Colorado, at the age of 61 years, one month and 15 days.
Rocky, as he was known by family and friends, grew to manhood in the Kanona-Oberlin area and attended Forty Seven Rural Grade School in District 47 and Decatur Community High School.
On December 5, 1950, Vidal was inducted into the United States Navy. He served on the USS Norton Sound and received the National Defense Service Medal before his honorable discharge in 1954.
Vidal was united in marriage to Alice Johnson on April 8, 1952, in Oberlin. They made their home in Ventura and Santa Paula, California, before moving to Denver, Colorado in 1965. Four children were born to thier union. One daughter Victoria Lynnette, died in infancy.
For many years, Vidal was a truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Union. His hobbies included woodworking and making crafts, but he enjoyed the time he spent with his family the most. He especially emjoyed his graddaughter and step-grandson.
He accepted Christ as his Savior shortly before his death.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of the home; two sons and their wives, Rick and Karen Capps of Oberlin, and Daniel and Lisa Capps of Aurora, Colorado; one daughter, Kimberly Kenyon of Denver; his sister, Kathryn Post of Oberlin; one granddaughter, Ashley Capps; a step-grandson, Paul (Doc) Uehlin; other relatives and a host of friends.
His parents; daughter; infant brother, Forest; and sister, Frances Vernon, predeceased him.

Moved to Marietta September 5, and mustered out September 14, 1864.

Lost during service 2 Officers and 37 Enlisted men by disease. Total 39.

On a yellowed piece of paper in the handwriting of Lola Vernon Capps is written:" Went to Norcatur, Monday Oct. 18 "1909"

John Walker [Parents] [scrapbook] was born 1 on 7 Mar 1798 in Estill Co., KY. He died on 10 Jun 1877 in Clay Co., MO and was buried in Providence Church Cem., Clay Co., MO. John married 2 Talitha Tipton on 4 Jun 1822 in Estill Co., KY.

John moved his family from Estill Co., KY in 1832 to Liberty, Clay, Mo where their first home was a log cabin. Later, he built a brick home like the family home in Kentucky. They made the brick that was used to build it in 1856. It sat on a high hill, 1/2 mile off the road, which was one of the Main trails and wagon roads to the west. Also the road from St. Joseph passed only a short distance from the Walker farm.
